Enter the main living area through the front door, and you'll immediately notice the original warm wood interior, comfortable dining space for the whole family, the original Door County stone fireplace (open October - April), and large windows overlooking the water. The main dining/living room is the space that initially made us fall in love with this cottage. The living room is set up for quiet mornings with coffee and breakfast overlooking the bay or lively evenings playing board games or watching movies on the flat-screen Smart TV above the fireplace. The dining room and living room are ample open-concept spaces that flow together seamlessly so that the entire family can enjoy one another's company while at Rocky Shores. It's the perfect place for afternoon naps on the couch or evenings spent in front of the wood-burning fireplace when Door County cools off.
You'll love the well-stocked kitchen with all of the essentials. Rocky Shores is designed for families to gather and eat together. Whether you want to grill some fantastic brats from nearby Marchant's Grocery, bake breakfast scones from Sunflower Bakery in Sturgeon Bay, or craft any other meals you can dream up with the family, we've got you covered. The open-concept dining room features a large table with seating for up to 8 guests.
Sink into bed after a day on the water or rest after enjoying all the Door County has to offer. The master bedroom features a king bed fully equipped with fresh linens, a ceiling fan, and ample closet and dresser space for extended vacations. The guest bedroom features two queen beds and contains a washer and dryer for your use while at Rocky Shores. The main cottage also features a queen sleeper sofa (the sleeper sofa will be removed in 2022 and the cottage will go to a 12 person max capacity).
Bunk House (Kid's Cottage):
Rocky Shores features a furnished bunkhouse (also known as the Kid's Cottage) attached to the garage with two bunk beds that sleep up to 6. An extra refrigerator/freezer is also available in the bunkhouse. The bunkhouse is fully insulated with several large windows and a ceiling fan. We added air conditioning and heat in September 2021 so the room is now a year-round sleeping room.
Rocky Shores has a single but well-appointed bathroom with convenient soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers, a heater just outside the shower, and plenty of space for families to get ready in the morning before heading out to enjoy Door County.
Perhaps the best part of Rocky Shores Retreat is the outdoors! With a large backyard and 180' of bay frontage, you'll have ample outdoor space you'll have at your disposal while staying at the cottage. The most prominent feature is the large deck shaded by cedar trees that overlook the bay. The deck is the perfect place to spend a morning watching the sunrise or the afternoon enjoying the beautiful Door County waterfront. Enjoy the outdoor spaces well into the evening with the outdoor lighting over the deck and ample seating for family and friends.
Rocky Shores is made for outdoor fun. You'll find four kayaks with paddles, a paddleboard, and life jackets that are great for cruising around Little Sturgeon Bay. Enjoy a bag toss or ring toss game or set up a tournament and get the whole family involved! (Kayaks available from May - September)
When the evening turns cooler, enjoy sunset views from around the fire ring with Adirondack chairs located just off the deck. You may purchase firewood at several roadside sellers within minutes of the cottage.
You'll also find a brick patio in the front of the cottage. On windy, cooler days, the front patio is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors and sunshine while staying out of the wind that sometimes comes out of the North.
